I’ll blog about a lot of things from a ton of different topics. I love sports. I love food. I also love common sense. This week, I’m a little ticked off about the lack of it surrounding this nation’s latest outrage du jour. Have you heard? A lion is dead. Some dude paid $50,000 to shoot him. The lion was supposed to be protected. Either the hunter, the guides or the host nation screwed up some paperwork or something. People are outraged and screaming in the street. They’re picketing outside the hunter’s dentist office. They’re shouting vile things and holding signs like ‘Rot in Hell!”. Come on, people. Shut up. Four days ago none of you had ever heard of Cecil the Lion and, more importantly, none of you cared. You’d never thought about keeping lions safe from hunters. You never wondered aloud if enough was being done to keep the majestic animals protected properly. You just didn’t care. But, because of a few photos and some media coverage, fake outrage and controversy ensued, like it always does. Wouldn’t it be nice if people spent more time being actually outraged on subjects that really matter? You are ticked off that a lion is dead, enough to darn-near riot in the Minnesota dentist’s parking lot, but not irate enough over the sale of dead baby parts to so much as muster a feeble whimper? Varun Dhawan tweeted this: “#CecilTheLion will be remembered forever. He has sparked a fire. The world should hang the man who killed him” No. No, Cecil will not be remembered. You’ll move on to the next flavor of the week controversy five minutes from now. Maybe an ostrich will fall in a hole somewhere that was illegally dug by a chiropractor from Alburqueque. Jimmy Kimmel literally cried on late night television over this cat. Let’s start worrying about, and getting mad over, things that actually are bringing our world down. Things like homelessness, cancer, child pornography, human trafficking, hunger and abortion. Stop wasting your time moaning about ONE DEAD CAT, or Caitlyn Jenner, or whatever nonsense Justin Beiber is squawking about today. Who cares?! None of that amounts to anything worth crying over. Certainly not protesting in the street. Don’t you people have jobs? Who can spend all day in a dentist parking lot waiving cardboard signs nextyou’re your disinterested kid whom you dressed up like Aslan? Cecil doesn’t impact you at all. No matter how much you scheme up your pile of ‘boo-hoos’ or ‘Can you believe!?’ cries on Facebook, it just doesn’t matter. Start worrying about something that matters and stop wasting your time, and mine, on nonsense like a dead lion nearly 9,000 miles away.
